Shaushka

Back to shelf
Living gender-complex Hurrian grimoire portrait of Shaushka in the winged masculine-presenting Yazilikaya aspect, wearing a horned cap and layered robe without borrowed Ishtar stars, lions, or weapons.

Shaushka is the Hurrian goddess of Nineveh received into Hittite religion and identified historically with Ishtar. Yazilikaya Relief 38 places a masculine-presenting, winged form in the male procession with Ninatta and Kulitta; the image preserves this gender complexity without merging Shaushka into another Ishtar record.
