Baalat Gebal

Back to shelf
Baalat Gebal enthroned in a living Byblian grimoire portrait, holding a lotus scepter beneath bovine horns and a solar disk.

Baalat Gebal is preserved here as a separately addressable Phoenician/Punic divine figure. This is the city goddess of Byblos in a source-attested Egyptianizing Byblian form. Egyptian visual vocabulary does not erase her Phoenician local identity.
