Melqart

Back to shelf
Living Phoenician grimoire portrait of Melqart in a long robe and ovoid tiara, gripping one source-attested fenestrated axe.

Melqart is the securely attested tutelary god of Tyre whose Phoenician and Punic receptions vary across cities and periods. The portrait uses the source-qualified early fenestrated-axe type without collapsing Melqart into Greek Heracles or Roman Hercules.
