Ningishzida

Back to shelf
Living grimoire painting of the Sumerian god Ningishzida with two horned snake-dragon protomes and one ancient sickle sword.

Ningishzida is a Sumerian god of Gishbanda associated with vegetation, decay, snakes, the netherworld, and judicial reliability. Ur III iconography securely connects him with snakes and shoulder-growing mushhushshu dragons, while a later god-list tradition gives him the sickle sword as a symbol.
